Get ready to connect

  • A WahooVPN account you can sign in to, with an active plan and remaining traffic.
  • Create a separate subscription link for this device using this format: V2Ray.
  • Do not share your account password with strangers when installing third-party clients.
Format and protocol compatibility

Choose V2Ray format. VLESS, REALITY and XHTTP support depends on the core and version, and must match server parameters. Compatibility with WahooVPN subscriptions on physical Android devices has not yet been tested for this guide.

01

Install the Android client

Choose an APK matching your device architecture from the official release page, install it and open v2rayNG.

Download an APK matching your device architecture from 2dust/v2rayNG releases. Recent phones often use arm64-v8a, but check your device information. Verify the source and follow the system installation process; do not ignore warnings about unknown sources.

02

Get a V2Ray subscription

Choose V2Ray on WahooVPN's Subscription Links page, create the link and copy the full address immediately. Do not enter your WahooVPN account password in the client.

Open WahooVPN subscription management
03

Add a subscription group

Open the top-left menu, go to Subscription Group Settings / Subscription Settings, tap +, enter a label and subscription address, then save.

04

Update subscription configurations

Return to the main screen and update subscriptions from the top-right menu. Confirm nodes appear in the correct group. If it is empty, check whether the update succeeded and the format is correct.

05

Select a node and start

Tap a node to make it the current configuration, then tap the connection button at the bottom right. On first use, approve Android's VPN permission. Avoid running other VPNs at the same time.

06

Verify access and check routing

Open your target website to check the connection. If some apps have no traffic, check routing, per-app proxy settings and Android battery restrictions. A latency test alone does not confirm connectivity.

Everyday use

Once connected, switch nodes, maintain subscriptions and check routing as needed.

Switch nodes and test a small selection

  1. Tap a node in the relevant subscription group to select it as the current configuration, then connect.
  2. Test a few candidate nodes first, then verify access to your target website. There is no need to repeatedly run real connection tests on the entire list.
  3. A test timeout may be caused by the test address or network. Judge it alongside actual website access.

Check routing and per-app proxy settings

  1. For routing by region or domain, check the routing settings and confirm the rules match your use case.
  2. If only one app bypasses the proxy, check whether it is excluded in per-app settings.
  3. Change one setting, reconnect and test. Changing routing, DNS and per-app settings together makes problems harder to isolate.

Update subscriptions and handle background interruptions

  1. Update the existing group and wait for completion before selecting a node. Avoid adding the same subscription again.
  2. Read the official release notes before updating the client and record the current app and core versions.
  3. For frequent disconnects after locking the screen, check battery and background restrictions first, then whether another VPN is taking over the connection.

Having trouble? Check these first.

What if v2rayNG stops immediately after connecting?

Confirm Android has granted VPN permission and no other VPN is running. Then check whether the core can parse the current configuration. Record a redacted error and compare the client, core version and node transport parameters.

The browser works. Why does one Android app fail?

Check whether per-app settings exclude the app, routing sends it directly or its own connection is stuck. Reconnect after changes and test; the node is not necessarily the cause.

Why does the connection drop when the phone is locked?

Check whether the system restricts v2rayNG's background activity or battery use. Allow necessary background activity following your device's instructions, then check other VPNs, network changes and client logs.

What is a subscription link?

A subscription link is a personal configuration address supplied by a proxy service provider. It contains information such as nodes, connection configuration and traffic plan details.

How do third-party proxy clients differ from the WahooVPN app?

Both use the same WahooVPN server resources, but their workflows and features differ. The official WahooVPN app lets you sign in and connect with one tap, with automatic server selection and smart routing. Third-party clients such as Clash and v2rayN load server configurations through subscription links without signing in to your WahooVPN account; available features depend on the client.

Which client should a beginner choose?

Start with your device: Shadowrocket for iOS, v2rayNG for Android, or Clash Verge Rev for macOS and Windows. Once you choose an app, open its guide on this site to find the matching subscription format.

What if an update fails or the node list is empty?

Check that the URL is complete, the format matches and the link is enabled, unexpired and not revoked. Also check your account expiry and remaining traffic. Confirm your network can reach the subscription service. Do not paste credentials into third-party online testing tools.

Why can I import a subscription but still not connect?

Confirm an active node is selected and the proxy is started. Then check system proxy or VPN permissions, routing and conflicts with other VPNs. Some nodes may use transport parameters unsupported by the current core. Successful subscription parsing does not establish protocol compatibility.

What is the difference between the system proxy and TUN?

The system proxy is used by apps that follow system proxy settings. TUN handles traffic through a virtual network interface and usually needs extra permissions. Routing and app exclusions still determine its scope; it does not guarantee that all traffic uses the proxy.

What if a link is lost, exposed or expired?

The full link is shown only when created. Create a new link if you lose it. If you suspect exposure, revoke the old link in your account, then create and import a new one. Revocation is irreversible. Check link expiry and account plan expiry separately.
